Three games left and four clubs staring into the void. We break down who is in most danger, what each team needs, and which remaining fixtures will decide who gets relegated.

While the top of the PSL table has grabbed all the headlines this weekend, the bottom four clubs are living through their own version of torture. Three matches remaining. At least two clubs will be relegated. And after Saturday's results, the permutations have shifted dramatically โ€” with a controversial penalty decision in Durban potentially reshaping the entire fight for survival.

Richards Bay โ€” On the Brink

The Natal Rich Boyz sit 15th with 28 points, one point from safety. Their 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu on Saturday โ€” via a penalty that replays show was awarded outside the box โ€” was a body blow. They have Kaizer Chiefs away, Orlando Pirates at home, and Stellenbosch away to come. That is three games against top-six opposition. On form and momentum, it is very difficult to see where they get the points they need. Relegation is the most likely outcome, and their supporters know it.

Swallows FC โ€” In Freefall

Swallows sit 16th and bottom of the table with 26 points. Their 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates on Saturday was their fourth consecutive loss. They have not kept a clean sheet in seven games. The defensive structure has completely collapsed, and interim coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi โ€” appointed after the board sacked the previous coach in April โ€” has not been able to arrest the slide. Swallows are likely to go down. The only realistic salvation is a dramatic turn in form coinciding with all three rivals also dropping points.

Chippa United โ€” Living Dangerously

The Chilli Boys sit 14th on 30 points โ€” technically safe, but only by two points. They have Mamelodi Sundowns away, AmaZulu at home, and Cape Town City away remaining. Facing Sundowns when they are under title pressure is not a fixture any relegated-zone club wants. If they lose that game, the final two fixtures become must-wins. Coach Vladislav Heric has been here before and keeps finding ways to survive, but this may be his hardest season yet.

Hungry Lions โ€” The Wild Card

The NFD promotion club sit 13th on 31 points โ€” apparently comfortable, but they have Golden Arrows, Richards Bay, and Swallows to face. All three fixtures are winnable, but Hungry Lions have shown worrying inconsistency in the second half of the season. If they drop four or more of the available nine points, and Chippa win theirs, the Lions could find themselves in trouble with no safety net.

The Verdict

Richards Bay and Swallows are the most likely clubs to go down. The third relegation place โ€” if there is to be a playoff โ€” is genuinely open between Chippa and Hungry Lions. For supporters of all four clubs, the next three weeks will be the most stressful of the season. Prepare yourselves.
