Kaizer Chiefs supporters are patient people. They have had to be. But after five consecutive seasons without a league title, the questions are becoming harder to ignore: what exactly is the plan, and when does it start working?
Where It Went Wrong
The problems at Chiefs are structural, not just about one bad season. A bloated wage bill following years of panic signings, an inconsistent approach to appointing coaches, and a recruitment committee that has too often prioritised agents' relationships over actual quality on the pitch.
Between 2019 and 2023, Chiefs appointed and dismissed five head coaches. Every coaching change means a new philosophy, new training methods, and new preferred players — and a squad that never settles into a consistent identity.
What is Being Fixed
The current technical team has shown more patience. The club has finally committed to a younger squad, with several Academy graduates getting consistent minutes. There is a visible style of play emerging — a high press with quick transitions — that feels like a genuine long-term philosophy rather than a reaction to recent results.
When Can Fans Expect Results?
Realistically, next season is a transition year. The season after — 2027/28 — is when this group of players, if kept together, should be competing for the title. The biggest risk is losing their best young talent to Sundowns or overseas before that window opens.
Chiefs supporters have suffered enough. The rebuild is real — but they need to be patient for one more season.
