South Africa hosted and won the 1996 AFCON โ the greatest moment in SA football history. Bafana reached the final again in 1998 (runners-up, lost to Egypt) and qualified for 2023 in Cรดte d'Ivoire where they defeated Morocco in the quarter-finals before a narrow semi-final exit against Nigeria.
