Africa has never had 9 teams at a World Cup. The expanded 48-team format means more representation — and more opportunity for an African nation to finally go deep. Here is our honest assessment of every African qualifier.
Morocco 🇲🇦 — Dark Horses (Rating: 8/10)
The 2022 semi-finalists are the obvious African standout. Walid Regragui's system is now mature, their squad is deep, and they will be motivated by the fact that the 2030 World Cup is on home soil. Watch Azzedine Ounahi dictate play in midfield. Genuine quarter-final minimum, and a realistic dark horse for the trophy.
Senegal 🇸🇳 — Contenders (Rating: 7/10)
Sadio Mané is the heartbeat and now the captain. If he is fit, Senegal are capable of beating anyone on a given day. Their squad is well-balanced and they have experience from 2022. An African team to put in your outright bet.
Nigeria 🇳🇬 — Inconsistent Talent (Rating: 6/10)
The Super Eagles have the individuals — Victor Osimhen at centre-forward, Ademola Lookman on the wing — but consistency has always been their problem. They can beat Brazil on a good day and lose to a minnow the next. Round of 16 is the realistic ceiling.
Egypt 🇪🇬 — Dependent on Salah (Rating: 6/10)
Mo Salah will be 34 during the tournament. If he is fit and motivated, Egypt can progress from their group. If he is not, they struggle to create. A team of one — but what a one.
Cameroon 🇨🇲 — Entertaining but Inconsistent (Rating: 5/10)
The Indomitable Lions are always charismatic but never reliable. They caused a sensation beating Brazil in 2022's group stage and still went home. Expect a moment — and then an early exit.
The Bottom Line
For your World Cup outright bets, Morocco at 30–40/1 is the African pick with genuine value. For group stage parlays, Senegal and Morocco are the most bankable — strong enough to top their groups and avoid early upsets.
